Leadership Recognition
Leonard Miller Principal Leadership Award

"If principals are able to build a vision of excellence; establish a strong school culture; select, retain and support effective staff to carry out the vision; and engage parents and the business community, students will succeed."

Principal leadership is the key to achieving high quality education. It needs to be recognized, rewarded, celebrated, and nurtured.

Towards this purpose, the Council for Educational Change established the Leonard Miller Principal Leadership Award.  Leonard Miller was the Chair of the South Florida Annenberg Challenge from 1997 until the time of his passing in 2002.  He was also the founder of the Challenge’s successor organization, the Council for Educational Change.

Mr. Miller firmly believed that Principal leadership was the catalyst to ignite school improvement. His leadership, vision, and expertise inspired the Council’s programs. This award shines a spotlight on extraordinary Principal leadership and the importance of the principalship.

We could never hope to adequately immortalize the legendary, lasting, and significant work undertaken by Mr. and Mrs. Miller to improve education for all Florida students. This is just one small tribute to their ongoing legacy. It captures his unwavering conviction that:

“If Every Child Can Get a Quality Education…

Every Child Can Succeed.”

Unfortunately, the Council was one of the casualties of the Covid virus and had to close its doors in 2021. For more information on Council programs please contact Dr. Elaine Liftin, (liftinela@aol.com and/or 305-775-5161
